Mostly not, there are millions and millions of bloggers out there and many are wondering why.
They have read the tutorials and seen the videos, got a nice domain and have all the best SEO engines.
They have robots for advertising, posting and even content. They work hard getting links and may even have a decent Page ranking, so what is missing?
My younger brother introduced me to blogging a short while ago and being retired and bored I caught on.
I did all the right moves and motions and got some traffic but no sales. I discovered that most visitors where rejects, they just went on to other sites. My site did not interest them enough to stay.
Honestly, I am sure you all have visited sites where the posts are just ad’s and the content is robot generated. Do you stay there? If your visitors just wants to shop, they will probably go directly to Amazon or E-bay or maybe take the car to Sears. The merchandise is the same everywhere, but where do they like to shop?
Let me lay a thought on you.
Say Armenian wood doll carving.
Site 1 concentrates on relevant content and content that (applies) to the visitor. It does not think much about traffic but the content is relevant, informed and with some depth.
Site 2 concentrates on advertisements for wood carving tools, nice design with all the robots, but has no relevant content, only ad’s or shallow generic content.
So what will happen is probably this:
Site 1 will shortly have many faithful visitors that identifies with the content of the site and find it interesting, will subscribe to the feeds and will spread the word. When they want to buy a knife or anything related to their hobby they probably go to that site because they feel at home and trust it.
Site 2 will probably have a lot of traffic due to the diligence of the master and a nice page ranking, but will probably not sell 10% of site 1.
Traffic is not useful if your visitors don’t stay.
It really don’t matter how you rank on Google if you have no content, there are million of sites that works with the same formula. Make a blog, get all the plugins, get a lot of links and you are rich. It is not that easy, there is no free lunch and there is no easy money, it’s long and hard work just laying the base. If you look at statistics you will see that the average bounce rate is very high, maybe 75-80% are “Rejects”. So you must make your site attractive to the visitor. Content is necessary and Good Content is scarce.
Well, that will be all for today, but I will follow up with a series of articles about Content, Editing & Design.
Be Good.
